Puppy At Home.

At last you have brought your puppy home! You have been preparing for that so long… or you just decided to have a dog one day… or your kids must grow up with pets… or… There may be lots of reasons but the result is essential. The puppy is with you! Hooray!

But what should you do now with it?

You must decide where the baby will sleep, eat and pee (yes, they do it at home at the beginning).

So, let’s start from the very beginning.

Buy a good dog-bed. Now there is a wonderful choice of them – round and fat muffins, flat and thin rugs, cozy houses, sofas, plastic beds with soft pillow inside and so on. Choose!

But bear it in your mind that even if your dog will sleep with you (oh, it’s terrible!) it must have its own place. Put the bed in a calm corner, far from warming radiators, not where everybody goes and where there is no draft.

Now we choose bowls for food and water. For the majority of dogs it is good to use special bowls on a stand. You should have bowls of appropriate size. While your puppy is growing you will put the bowls higher. The puppy must eat without either stretching on its feet or bending its head down.

Toilet. Now comfortable special trays are available. You can put a newspaper there or a special water absorbing diaper. Train the puppy to use the tray and your floor will be clean. By the way, for owners of small dogs which are not taken for a walk regularly it is really a necessity. For males there are special trays with a column in the middle.

Now we pass over to entertaining. A puppy like any other child needs toys. If you don’t supply him with different toys he will find them himself. It will be everything – shoes, socks, TV remote control and so on. If your belongings are dear to you – take care of it. Dogs’ business is well developed in that sphere. Toys can be made of different materials – rubber, latex, fabric, rope and many others. The main rule: if the puppy has torn a soft toy or has started to bite a rubber one – the toy must be thrown away! Since only food and water must get into the puppy’s stomach!

There are also wonderful things that take your kid away from doing different bad things – snacks (they are called chewies or yammies). These are things made of skin, vein or giblets of farm animals as well as ears, hooves and others. After special processing they get a very pleasant look. You may give them to your puppy. The instruction how to use these snacks can be found on their cover. Also there you will find out if they contain long bone. Be careful with bones!

And now what you must do first is to check your house if it is safe for your puppy. For example, cables. They must be taken away. The puppy may think they are a toy. There must be only a bowl with water (and with food for some breeds), toys, snacks, bed and a toilet in the puppy’s disposal. All the rest that a puppy can reach must be taken away.

So, we have decided what your puppy will do at home. Now we pass over to gears. You must train your dog to walk on a leash. First - because there are rules in cities and second - for your puppy’s safety.

There is a great choice of leashes and collars made of different materials on the market now. It’s the matter of your preferences. But consult your breeder. It depends on the breed as well. First of all it depends on the dog’s size, coat type and aim – for walking or training or dog show. All are different.

The weather is nice and you are in a good mood and would like to make a long walk? Wonderful! Don’t forget to fetch water (especially when it is hot) and if the walk is long you should take food for your pet as well. Buy a watering bottle and a folding bowl for travels. You will enjoy your trips!

It is important to have a special pullover for dogs with short coat or without any. Warm is for winter and water resistant and light is for rainy weather. Don’t forget that your puppy will grow till some age. Boots will also be good, especially for those who live in cities since the streets are covered with anti-ice substances that are really very dangerous for dog’s feet.

It is important! When it is warm from the very moment when the snow starts to melt and the ground opens till the latest autumn when snow lays your dog is to be carefully and thoroughly protected with special remedy against insects. Piroplasmosis (babesiosis) – is a disease that is carried by acarines and it is very fast (from some hours to some days). It is deathly dangerous without veterinarian care. The symptoms are quite different. So, if you have seen something strange in your pet’s behavior (Bad mood, slow and unsure movements, refusal from food, high temperature and what is the worst – dark urine color – and many other things. There are no special symptoms of the disease) you must make tests in vet. clinic on babesias. HURRY!!!

And now about something that doesn’t bother owners but irritates and bothers usual ordinary people. We train our dogs to do their things outside carefully. It is right! But don’t forget that the street is not a good place for dogs’ excrements. So, please, take them away after your dogs! It is not difficult. You may buy special devices for that in pet shops. You will avoid angry (and just) words from passers-by and will not spoil your mood.

But everything will be OK! Learn to understand each other and ask your breeder all questions. It’s not by chance you have chosen him in search for your kid!
